Teddy Swims’ ‘Lose Control’ reaches top of Billboard Hot 100

Teddy Swims achieves his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as “Lose Control” rises to the top. This is the singer-songwriter’s debut entry on the chart, making history as the longest climb to No. 1 by a solo male in 65 years.

Airplay and streams boost song to top position

“Lose Control” gained 59.1 million radio airplay impressions (up 9%), 23.2 million streams (down 2%), and sold 8,000 copies (down 34%) in the week ending March 21, according to Luminate. It also rose to no. 3 on the radio songs chart while maintaining a strong streaming performance.

Swims, whose real name is Jaten Dimsdale, revealed that the song is inspired by heartbreak. “I’m super grateful that person broke my heart,” Swims said. “Pain is paying the bills still.” The track is featured on his debut album, I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part I).

Remixes help maintain song’s momentum

Two new versions of “Lose Control,” including a Tiësto remix and a radio edit, were released this week, adding to its appeal. These join multiple versions already available, such as acoustic and live recordings.

The song took 32 weeks to reach the no. 1 spot, marking the fifth-longest climb to the top in Hot 100 history. Only tracks like Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” took longer.

Warner Records dominates Hot 100 chart

With Teddy Swims at no. 1 and Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” at no. 2, Warner Records holds the top two positions on the chart for the first time since 2013. This highlights the label’s strong performance.

‘Lose’ becomes a recurring chart theme

“Lose Control” is the fourth song with “lose” in its title to reach no. 1, joining hits by Selena Gomez, Eminem, and Gloria Estefan. This adds to a list of chart-toppers with “lost” in their titles, such as Debbie Gibson’s “Lost in Your Eyes.”

Teddy Swims’ milestone with “Lose Control” solidifies his position as a breakout artist, with both personal storytelling and a record-setting chart performance.
