KAHULUI, Hawaii — Authorities in Maui are currently looking into the unsettling incident involving the discovery of a deceased individual located in the wheel well of a United Airlines aircraft following its arrival in Maui. This information was revealed in statements made by both the airline and local law enforcement on Wednesday.

The unfortunate finding occurred within the landing gear’s wheel well of flight 202, which had flown into Kahului Airport from Chicago on Tuesday. United Airlines reported that the Boeing 787-10’s wheel well could only be accessed from outside the plane, raising questions about how the individual gained entry and the timing of the incident, as per the airline’s email update.

In their statement, the Maui Police Department confirmed they are “actively investigating” the situation surrounding the discovery of the body. However, neither United Airlines nor the police department provided further details on the matter at this time.

On Wednesday, attempts to acquire additional information from Kahului Airport led to communication with a public affairs official from the state’s department of transportation. The spokesperson confirmed via email that there were no new details available beyond what United Airlines had already disclosed regarding the incident.
