ISTANBUL — A tragic explosion at an ammunition manufacturing plant in northwestern Turkey resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals and left five others injured on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place in Balikesir province, as reported by the state-controlled news agency Anadolu. The facility is located in a remote, rural region, distanced from densely populated areas.
Balikesir Governor Ismail Ustaoglu revealed that the blast caused significant damage, leading to the collapse of the building where capsule production occurred, while nearby structures sustained only minor harm. He indicated that the explosion was attributed to a technical malfunction, dismissing any concerns regarding potential sabotage.
In response to the incident, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced via a post on the social media platform X that public prosecutors have been assigned to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
