Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, the 15-year-old responsible for killing a student and a teacher at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, has been seen for the first time in photos released on Tuesday. One particular image, shared on her father’s Facebook page, shows Rupnow at a shooting range wearing a KMFDM T-shirt, the German band notably associated with Columbine shooter Eric Harris.
The band, whose name loosely translates to “no pity for the majority,” was also worn by Harris in photos leading up to the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, in which 13 people were killed. As with Harris and his accomplice Dylan Klebold, Rupnow turned the gun on herself after her rampage, dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police are still investigating Rupnow’s motives, but the parallels between the Columbine shooting and her actions — including her clothing choice — have led to speculation about potential inspiration.
Details of the Shooting
The deadly incident occurred around 11 a.m. Monday during a study hall session at the K-12 Abundant Life Christian School. Rupnow entered the classroom, which was filled with students from multiple grades, and opened fire with a handgun, killing a teacher and a fellow student before taking her own life.
Investigation and Home Search
Following the shooting, SWAT teams conducted a search of Rupnow’s family home Monday night, located approximately eight miles from the school. Police confirmed that her father allowed them entry with consent. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes has raised concerns about how the teenager obtained the firearm, a key focus of the ongoing investigation.
Aftermath and Reactions
The incident has shaken the Madison community. Images and videos captured students being escorted away from the scene, while frantic parents rushed to pick up their children. Police continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses to better understand the circumstances leading up to the attack.
Additional photos shared on social media depict Rupnow in happier times, playing with family dogs and enjoying outdoor activities. However, the emerging details of the shooting — combined with her appearance in the KMFDM shirt — are prompting further scrutiny of her actions and influences.
Authorities remain committed to uncovering more about the motive and addressing lingering questions about the availability of firearms to minors.
