Jamie Foxx’s birthday celebration in Beverly Hills took an unexpected turn on Friday when the actor was injured during an altercation, requiring stitches, CNN reports. The incident occurred at a restaurant where Foxx was dining to mark the occasion.

“Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” a spokesperson for the actor shared. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called, and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”

The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) later issued a statement regarding the incident, though it did not name Foxx directly. According to the statement, officers responded to a report of a “possible assault with a deadly weapon” at the restaurant around 10 p.m. Upon investigation, they determined the assault allegation was unfounded, categorizing the event instead as a physical altercation.

“The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests were made,” the statement read. Officials confirmed they are continuing to investigate, but the reasons behind the altercation remain unclear, and no further details have been disclosed.

This incident follows Foxx’s recent disclosure of his health struggles in his Netflix special, What Happened Was, released earlier this week. In the special, the actor opened up about a life-threatening medical emergency that occurred last year while filming his Netflix movie Back in Action alongside Cameron Diaz.

Foxx revealed he suffered a suspected brain bleed leading to a stroke, which required surgery. The actor shared that he was unconscious for 20 days and described the ordeal as a near-death experience. “He may be able to make a full recovery, but it’s gonna be the worst year of his life,” Foxx recalled a doctor telling his sister during the medical crisis.

Foxx’s resilience has been apparent, but this recent altercation adds another chapter to what has already been a challenging year for the star.
