Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan shared unsettling footage on his X account Friday of large drones circling above his residence in Davidsonville, Maryland, just 25 miles from Washington, DC. This incident adds to a growing wave of mysterious drone sightings reported along the East Coast, particularly in New Jersey.
Hogan, 68, described witnessing “dozens of large drones” hovering over his property for about 45 minutes. He raised concerns about public safety and national security, stating that federal agencies—including the White House, military, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security—claimed to have no information on the drones’ origins or operators.
“This response is entirely unacceptable,” Hogan wrote. “I join the growing bipartisan chorus demanding immediate federal action. The American people deserve answers and action now.”
The drone sightings align with reports from at least four commercial airline pilots who noticed colorful, circular lights moving at extreme speeds over Oregon last weekend. The pilots’ discussions with air traffic controllers on Dec. 7, captured in audio archives, highlighted the unusual behavior of these aerial phenomena.
Widespread Sightings Across New Jersey
New Jersey residents, including Senator Andy Kim, have also reported mysterious drone activity. Kim joined local police Thursday night at Round Valley Reservoir to observe the drones.
“Last night, we saw lights moving low over the tree line. Some were solid white, while others flashed red and green. They moved in clusters of 2-4 and performed maneuvers impossible for conventional aircraft,” Kim shared on X, accompanied by videos of the lights in the sky.
Officials Respond, Downplay Threat
Despite widespread concerns, federal agencies have stated that the drones do not pose an immediate threat to public safety or national security. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby emphasized that many sightings likely involved lawfully operated manned aircraft, based on available imagery.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul also reassured residents: “We know New Yorkers have spotted drones this week, and we are investigating. At this time, there’s no evidence they pose a threat.” Hochul added that the state is working closely with the FBI and DHS to ensure the safety of its citizens.
