WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump has appointed billionaire investment banker Warren Stephens as his ambassador to the United Kingdom, a distinguished role for the Republican donor who contributed $2 million to a pro-Trump super PAC this year.

Trump declared his decision in a post on his Truth Social platform late Monday, revealing that Stephens will be the U.S. ambassador to the Court of Saint James. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

“Warren has always aspired to serve the United States on a full-time basis. I am excited that he will now have the chance to be our chief diplomat, representing America to one of our most treasured allies,” Trump noted in his announcement.

Stephens is currently the chairman, president, and CEO of Stephens Inc., a financial services firm based in Little Rock, Arkansas, which he took over from his father.

Trump has begun filling a number of Cabinet and important diplomatic positions, assembling a team of committed supporters. Over the weekend, he also revealed his intention to nominate real estate developer Charles Kushner, who is the father of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France.

During his previous term, Trump appointed Robert “Woody” Johnson, a campaign donor and owner of the New York Jets, as his representative to the United Kingdom.
