BALTIMORE — In a tightly contested game on Sunday, Saquon Barkley made a decisive 25-yard touchdown run with just under eight minutes to go, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 24-19 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. This win marks the Eagles’ eighth consecutive victory, solidifying their strong position in the league.
Despite being a star kicker, Justin Tucker’s struggles continued for Baltimore, as he missed two field goal attempts and failed to convert on an extra point. The Ravens, now with an 8-5 record, find themselves 1.5 games behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North. After falling behind early by 9-0, the Eagles bounced back with two touchdowns in the second quarter. While Tucker managed to kick a 50-yarder just before halftime, the Ravens could not add any points until the dying seconds of the match.
The much-anticipated clash between running backs Saquon Barkley of the Eagles and Derrick Henry of the Ravens did not entirely meet expectations. Barkley finished the game with 107 rushing yards, courtesy of a strong fourth quarter performance, while Henry recorded 82 rushing yards along with 29 receiving yards on three catches.
While trailing 14-12 in the third quarter, the Ravens controlled the ball for an extended period but failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Tucker’s misses from 47 and 53 yards meant the Ravens could not gain the points they desperately needed. Barkley’s touchdown pushed Philadelphia ahead 21-12, and although Jackson managed to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Likely with just three seconds remaining, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
In this game, Lamar Jackson fell to 23-2 against NFC opponents as a starting quarterback. He finished with 237 passing yards and added 79 rushing yards to his tally. The matchup displayed the Ravens’ top-ranked offense against the Eagles’ formidable defense. Initially, the Ravens capitalized on the Eagles’ six penalties in the opening quarter, which allowed Jackson to connect a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mark Andrews to give Baltimore a brief 9-0 lead.
The second quarter, however, belonged entirely to the Eagles. Quarterback Jalen Hurts connected with Dallas Goedert for a 17-yard touchdown and later scored himself on a 1-yard sneak, despite appearing to struggle with the snap initially, he managed to secure the ball just in time.
In terms of player injuries, Philadelphia was without wide receiver DeVonta Smith due to a hamstring issue. Safety Reed Blankenship sustained a concussion and had to leave the field. Additionally, receiver Britain Covey suffered a neck injury, while Goedert faced a knee problem. On the Ravens’ side, safety Kyle Hamilton went into concussion protocol during the first quarter but made a return to play, while receiver Rashod Bateman suffered a knee injury, and safety Sanoussi Kane encountered a hamstring issue.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday, while the Ravens will take a bye week before facing the New York Giants on December 15.
