PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby achieved a significant milestone in his NHL career, becoming the 21st player in league history to net 600 goals. This landmark moment occurred during the second period of a match against the Utah Hockey Club Saturday evening.

Crosby’s 600th goal was scored with just 10 seconds remaining on a 5-on-3 power play. Following the accomplishment, the Penguins’ bench celebrated exuberantly. This goal also marked Crosby’s first against the Utah team. He executed a powerful one-timer from the right side of the net, thanks to a well-placed pass from Erik Karlsson at 3:11 of the second period. As the goal was announced, the fans erupted in applause, giving Crosby a standing ovation, to which he responded by raising his stick to show his appreciation.

Crosby, alongside Alex Ovechkin, stands as one of the only active players in the NHL to have achieved the 600-goal milestone. Ovechkin reached his 600th goal on March 12, 2018, and currently has a total of 868, which places him 26 goals short of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record. Crosby also holds the distinction of being the seventh player in NHL history to amass 600 goals while playing for a single team.

In addition to his personal achievement, Crosby joins Mario Lemieux as the only two players to score 600 goals while being part of the Penguins franchise. This places Pittsburgh in an exclusive club, making it just the second team in NHL history to have multiple players reach the 600-goal mark, alongside Detroit, which boasts legends Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman.

Playing in his 1,295th career game, Crosby also surpassed Patrice Bergeron for the 18th position on the all-time list for games played with a single franchise.
