Nikki Haley took aim at President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet selections during her SiriusXM radio show Nikki Haley Live, reserving her sharpest criticism for Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s pick for Director of National Intelligence. Haley accused the former Democratic congresswoman of spreading Russian propaganda and labeled her a “Russian, Iranian, Syrian, Chinese sympathizer.”
Haley Condemns Gabbard’s Foreign Policy Stances
Haley criticized Gabbard for meeting with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in 2017, calling the visit a “photo op” while atrocities were being committed against the Syrian people. Haley also slammed Gabbard for questioning Assad’s role in chemical attacks, describing her comments as “Russian talking points” and “propaganda.”
“She’s defended Russia, Syria, Iran, and China,” Haley said, adding, “This is not the person we need overseeing our national security agencies.”
Haley pointed to Gabbard’s past statements blaming NATO for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and opposing sanctions on Iran as evidence of her unsuitability for the role. “The Director of National Intelligence must be an honest broker, not someone with pronounced policy biases,” Haley declared.
Haley Blasts Robert Kennedy Jr. as HHS Nominee
Haley also criticized Trump’s choice of Robert Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, highlighting his lack of healthcare experience. While avoiding his controversial anti-vaccine stance, Haley noted his past endorsements of Democratic candidates like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as his support for progressive policies.
“Why put someone ideologically opposed to Trump’s views in charge of 25% of the federal budget?” Haley asked, calling Kennedy’s nomination a risky move.
Concerns Over Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth
Haley expressed doubts about the confirmation of Matt Gaetz as Attorney General, citing his alleged involvement in sexual misconduct with a minor and illicit drug use. “The AG is the chief law enforcement officer,” Haley said. “He has the right to defend himself, but starting a confirmation process with those allegations is problematic.”
Haley also criticized Pete Hegseth, Trump’s pick for defense secretary, who faces a sexual assault accusation. “He’s going to have to answer to that,” Haley said, emphasizing the importance of accountability in such high-profile positions.
Haley Aligns with Progressives on Gabbard Nomination
In an unusual alliance, Haley’s opposition to Gabbard mirrors warnings from progressive lawmakers like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who have also called the nomination dangerous. Haley’s scathing critique adds to the mounting controversy surrounding Trump’s Cabinet picks, many of whom face questions about their qualifications and past actions.
“This isn’t about party loyalty,” Haley concluded. “It’s about ensuring the right people are in place to safeguard our national interests.”
