KYIV, Ukraine — A tragic series of Russian attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine has resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals, including a child, as the conflict entered its 1,000th day. This latest strike involved a Shahed drone and took place late Monday night in the northern Sumy region, as reported by officials on Tuesday. The assault not only claimed lives but also left 11 others injured, including two children. Rescue Services have indicated that more victims may be trapped beneath the debris of the damaged structures.

The missile strike targeted a dormitory associated with an educational institution in the town of Hlukhiv, according to the regional administration. Ukraine has faced relentless aggression from Russian drones and missiles, while its forces are enduring significant pressure along the extensive 1,000-kilometer (approximately 600-mile) front line, where they are in confrontation with a larger Russian military presence.

In a separate incident on Sunday, a Russian ballistic missile equipped with cluster munitions struck a residential district in northern Sumy, resulting in 11 fatalities and injuring 84 others. Just a day later, on Monday, a barrage of Russian missiles ignited apartment fires in the southern port city of Odesa, leading to at least 10 deaths and injuring 43 individuals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned these repeated aerial assaults, asserting that they reveal Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to seek peace. “Every new Russian attack underscores Putin’s real aim. He desires the war to persist. Discussions about peace hold no appeal for him. We must compel Russia towards a just peace through formidable means,” stated Zelenskyy.
