Louisville sidelines cornerback Tayon Holloway following his arrest on charges of assault and strangulation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville has indefinitely suspended sophomore cornerback Tayon Holloway following his recent arrest. He faces serious accusations, including felony first-degree strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault. The institution released a statement about the suspension, indicating that they are in the process of gathering more details regarding the incident, which reportedly took place on Sunday night. Holloway has entered a not guilty plea in response to the charges.

This arrest for Holloway comes just a day after he incurred an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during a game against Stanford, which contributed to Louisville’s tight 38-35 defeat to the Cardinal. As per an arrest report, a woman informed the University of Louisville Police that Holloway was allegedly preparing to smoke marijuana in his dorm room. When she attempted to intervene, Holloway reportedly forcefully threw her off the bed and began striking her with his fists.

According to this report, Holloway then took a pillow and pressed it against the woman’s face for approximately ten seconds. He eventually moved the pillow and then physically pushed her towards the door of the bedroom. In an act of self-defense, the woman reportedly used a mirror for protection, which shattered during the struggle. Police noted that the woman sustained a laceration on her upper lip as a result of the altercation.

On Monday morning, Holloway was presented in Jefferson County District Court for his arraignment. His bond has been set at $10,000, and he has been instructed to refrain from contacting the victim in this case. Holloway, who transferred to Louisville after two seasons at the University of North Carolina, has participated in all ten games this season. Throughout these games, he has recorded a total of 16 tackles, five pass breakups, and one sack.
