US forces carry out attacks on militia positions in Syria supported by Iran

0

In a recent action, the United States targeted nine sites across two locations in Syria on Monday, focusing on militias allied with Iran that had carried out assaults on U.S. forces within the previous day, according to U.S. Central Command.

Fortunately, no American personnel sustained injuries during these strikes. However, as of late Monday evening, the Pentagon had not released specific details regarding which U.S. installations in Syria were attacked or the precise locations that were targeted in retaliation.

Currently, approximately 900 U.S. military members are stationed in Syria, primarily to aid local forces in their operations against Islamic State fighters. Earlier this year, in February, the U.S. launched a significant offensive against Iranian-supported militia positions in Syria in response to a drone incident in Jordan that claimed the lives of three U.S. servicemen.

Since the outbreak of violence instigated by Hamas against Israel on October 7, followed by Israel’s extensive military actions in Gaza, Iranian-aligned militias that have tenuous ties with Hamas have increasingly engaged in drone and rocket strikes targeting U.S. bases in both Syria and Iraq.
