MANCHESTER, England — This Sunday, the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) will pay tribute to hip-hop icon Busta Rhymes by presenting him with the Global Icon Award.
The artist, who has been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards and sold over 10 million albums, is set to take the stage in Manchester to deliver a performance featuring a medley of his most celebrated tracks.
Expressing his gratitude, Rhymes stated that receiving this award is a significant honor and views it as a celebration of hip-hop culture.
“Being recognized on this global platform reminds us that Hip Hop transcends boundaries— and so do I!” Rhymes mentioned in an official statement.
The show will be hosted by British artist Rita Ora, marking her third consecutive time as the host. Taylor Swift leads the nominations for the second year in a row, with seven nods, which include best artist, best video, best pop, and biggest fans.
Other notable nominees include artists such as Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter.
Celebrating four decades since their debut album, the U.K. duo Pet Shop Boys will receive the first-ever Pop Pioneers Award for their outstanding contributions to pop music and will perform alongside the Manchester Camerata orchestra.
The evening will also feature performances by a diverse lineup of artists including viral sensation Benson Boone, K-Pop group Le Sserafim, Mexican musician Peso Pluma, English artist Raye, multi-platinum star Shawn Mendes, American singer Teddy Swims, the Mexican rock band The Warning, and South African singer Tyla.
Awards will be presented by a star-studded roster that includes LL Cool J, Gavin Rossdale of Bush, mother-daughter duo Neneh Cherry and Mabel, along with actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Lucien Laviscount.
The 2024 MTV EMAs will be broadcast live from Manchester’s Co-op Live on MTV and available on various streaming platforms in over 150 countries.
