Judith Jamison, a renowned dancer celebrated worldwide, has passed away at the age of 81. Her death occurred in New York on Saturday following a brief illness, with close friends by her side, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Christopher Zunner.

Originally hailing from Philadelphia, Jamison began her journey in dance with a focus on ballet. She made her debut with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1965, quickly rising to prominence as one of the company’s star performers.
