DENTON, Texas — Quarterback Bryson Daily showcased a remarkable performance, rushing for 153 yards and scoring two touchdowns, leading the No. 18 Army Black Knights to a 14-3 win against North Texas on Saturday. This victory marked Army’s 13th consecutive win, the longest active streak in the nation.
In an unusual turn, the Black Knights (9-0, 7-0 American Athletic) found themselves trailing for the first time during this winning run after North Texas opened the game with a field goal. However, Army quickly retaliated, with Daily executing a 10-yard touchdown run that shifted the score to 7-3. This remained the score until his second touchdown, a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Chandler Morris, who led the FBS in passing with an average of 359 yards per game, struggled, completing just 214 yards while also throwing two interceptions in the red zone during the final quarter. The Mean Green (5-4, 2-3) faced their third consecutive defeat while attempting to secure bowl eligibility, and they experienced the frustration of being shut out on offensive touchdowns for the first time since suffering a 32-0 loss to Florida in 2016.
Daily had missed last week’s victory over Air Force due to an undisclosed injury and illness but made a strong comeback, tying his career high by carrying the ball 36 times. Army’s rushing attack, ranked first in the nation, accumulated 293 yards, though it fell slightly short of its season average.
Meanwhile, North Texas, which ranked third nationally in total offense, was limited to a season-low of 283 yards against Army’s top-ranked defense, which sits at No. 5 nationally.
The game included a risky play by Army at the end of the first half, where they opted for a fake field goal rather than accepting a field goal. With only a second left on the clock, holder Matthew Holder attempted a run from the 14-yard line but came up 2 yards short.
Contrastingly, North Texas’s inability to put points on the board after their initial drive starkly contrasts their past encounter with Army, where they clinched a 52-49 victory seven years ago with a last-second field goal.
Looking ahead, Army faces No. 10 Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium on November 23, while North Texas will take on UTSA this upcoming Friday.
