El Segundo, California – Bronny James has been officially assigned to the G League affiliate team of the Los Angeles Lakers, allowing him to join the South Bay Lakers in time for their season opener this weekend.
The Lakers confirmed this decision on Thursday regarding James, who is 20 years old and the son of NBA superstar LeBron James.
Bronny has made appearances in three games for the Lakers, managing to score a total of four points over 13 minutes combined. A significant milestone occurred on October 22, when Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo to compete together in an NBA game during the Lakers’ opening win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On October 30, Bronny achieved a personal landmark by scoring his first basket in the NBA while playing against the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the very arena he frequented as a child to watch his father play.
Despite this early success, both LeBron and the Lakers have stated that Bronny will be dedicating considerable time to the G League this season as he continues to sharpen his skills.
In the summer of 2023, Bronny faced a life-threatening cardiac arrest event, which limited his playing time during his single season with the Southern California college basketball team before he declared for the draft last summer. He was then selected by Los Angeles towards the end of the second round.
The South Bay Lakers host their games at the Lakers’ training facility located in El Segundo, and they will be facing the Salt Lake City Stars on Saturday night.
