In a significant election held on Tuesday, Republican Sheri Biggs emerged victorious, securing a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives representing South Carolina. This win ensures that the GOP maintains control of the open seat in the 3rd Congressional District.

Biggs, who has experience as both a nurse practitioner and an officer in the Air National Guard, is set to make history as the second Republican woman to serve in Congress from South Carolina. Her candidacy was widely supported due to the district’s strong Republican leanings, making her the favored candidate throughout the race.

In the general election, Biggs faced off against Democrat Byron Best. Earlier in her campaign during a challenging primary, she secured her spot by defeating Mark Burns, a pastor of African American descent who had garnered endorsements from former President Donald Trump. Additionally, South Carolina’s Republican Governor Henry McMaster lent his support to Biggs’ campaign. Her election follows the decision of incumbent Republican Representative Jeff Duncan to retire after serving seven consecutive terms in office.
