BOISE, Idaho — Ashton Jeanty had an impressive performance with 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Maddux Madsen delivered a career-best game with 307 passing yards and four touchdown throws, leading No. 15 Boise State to a dominating 56-24 victory over San Diego State on Friday night. This win marks the Broncos’ sixth consecutive triumph.
Jeanty achieved his eighth consecutive 100-yard rushing game, surpassing the school record previously held by Jay Ajayi in 2014. After a challenging first half where he managed just 37 yards on 15 carries, he erupted in the third quarter, accumulating 112 rushing yards before sitting out the final frame.
Madsen completed an impressive 24 out of 32 passes without any interceptions for the Broncos, who improved their overall record to 7-1 and 4-0 in the Mountain West Conference.
The game started strong for Boise State as they scored on their initial two drives. A’Marion McCoy significantly boosted their lead by returning an interception 35 yards for a touchdown, pushing the score to 21-0 late in the opening quarter. The Broncos continued their scoring streak, marking three touchdowns in a row midway through the second quarter.
Following their only defeat earlier in the season against the now-ranked No. 1 Oregon (37-34), Boise State has taken down San Diego State three times in a row for the first time. Latrell Caples was the standout among receivers, achieving 90 yards and three touchdowns on six catches, while Cameron Camper supported with four receptions for 50 yards.
For San Diego State, Marquez Cooper contributed significantly with 94 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Quarterback Danny O’Neil ended the game with 155 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
In terms of analysis, the Aztecs, despite their rough start to the season, still have a chance to become bowl eligible. On the other hand, Boise State’s offensive capabilities extend beyond Jeanty. Madsen commanded the field, overseeing an offense that totaled 541 yards and demonstrated agility and decision-making under pressure, proving they are versatile and effective in their approach.
Next up for San Diego State is a home game against New Mexico on Friday night, while Boise State will host Nevada on November 9.
