McDonald’s stated it cannot confirm whether Vice President Kamala Harris ever worked at one of its locations but expressed pride in hearing about her “fond memories” of the experience. The fast-food chain extended an invitation to Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, to visit a restaurant to discuss how McDonald’s contributes to economic opportunities and community support.

Company Reflects on the “1 in 8” Statistic

In a statement shared on X, McDonald’s referenced the well-known statistic that one in eight Americans has worked at the company at some point. Harris has claimed she worked at a Bay Area McDonald’s during the summer of 1983 while studying at Howard University.

The statement from McDonald’s came as former President Donald Trump made headlines for working at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania over the weekend. While taking on the role of a fry cook, Trump engaged with customers and staff, taking jabs at Harris during his visit. The company noted its increasing visibility in the current election cycle, tying into the ongoing discourse around Harris’s past and Trump’s fondness for their food.

Media Reactions to Trump’s McDonald’s Stop

Following Trump’s surprise appearance, various media outlets provided commentary. NBC News critiqued his cooking skills, while Rolling Stone described the visit as “bizarre.” The New York Times took aim at Trump’s choice of attire and lack of proper cooking gear, pointing out the limited evidence of him cooking for himself.

McDonald’s expressed an eagerness to engage with Harris and Walz, stating that their franchisees wish to share how the company provides meaningful economic pathways and supports local communities.
