Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar’s Luxurious Bunker Revealed Amid War
Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ leader and mastermind behind the Oct. 7 attacks, was living in a lavish underground bunker in Gaza, Israeli officials revealed. The bunker, located in Khan Younis, was stocked with UN food rations, cash, and personal luxuries, allowing Sinwar to comfortably ride out the war while directing operations.
Sinwar’s Hidden Lair and Escape to Rafah
Footage from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) provides a rare glimpse into Sinwar’s living quarters before he fled to Rafah, where he was killed last Thursday. The February video showcases a fully equipped bunker, designed for Sinwar and his guards, including a well-stocked kitchen, showers, and multiple rooms.
Stolen UN Food Rations and Weapon Caches
Israeli soldiers touring the bunker found bags of food with labels from the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA), raising accusations that Hamas was stealing supplies meant for Gaza’s refugees. Along with food, the bunker stored weapons, ammunition, and explosives, emphasizing Sinwar’s command of Hamas forces from underground.
Luxurious Living While Gaza Suffers
Sinwar’s private quarters were filled with luxury items, including bottles of cologne and hygiene products. A large safe beside his bed held millions of shekels, illustrating the stark contrast between his comfort and the suffering of civilians above ground.
“He lives here in a good way, with all his millions, while the civilians above ground are living in poverty and are starving,” an IDF soldier commented.
Sinwar’s Final Days and Death
Despite managing to flee his bunker in Khan Younis before it was breached by Israeli forces, Sinwar met his end in Rafah. Israeli forces caught him in a missile strike during a routine operation, suspecting at the time that they were targeting just another Hamas fighter.
Criticism of Hamas Leadership
Sinwar, like other Hamas leaders, has faced criticism for his luxurious lifestyle while Gaza’s population endures severe hardship. This divide was highlighted when his wife was spotted carrying a $32,000 Birkin bag during the family’s escape, reinforcing accusations of Hamas leaders’ detachment from the struggles of the people they claim to represent.
