Harris asserts that Sinwar’s death represents a chance ‘to ultimately conclude the conflict in Gaza’

MILWAUKEE — During a campaign event on Thursday at a college in Wisconsin, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris expressed that the recent killing of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, by Israeli forces presents a crucial opportunity to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Harris stated that any conclusion to the war should ensure Israel’s security, facilitate the release of hostages, alleviate the suffering in Gaza, and uphold the rights of the Palestinian people to dignity, safety, freedom, and self-determination. “It is time for the day after to begin,” she declared, emphasizing the importance of moving forward.

Upon her arrival at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she was met with protests, as demonstrators outside vocally advocated for Palestinian liberation, chanting “Free, free Palestine.”

According to Israeli officials, Sinwar was killed during a confrontation with Israeli troops in Gaza. Israeli Foreign Minister Katz praised the operation, describing Sinwar’s death as both a “military and moral achievement” for the Israeli military.

Sinwar was considered a key figure in orchestrating the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, an incident that marked the beginning of heightened hostilities and unpredictable tensions across the region.
