ABUJA, Nigeria — Over 90 individuals have tragically lost their lives, while around 50 others suffered injuries following a gasoline tanker accident that led to a devastating explosion. This incident unfolded as numerous people rushed to the scene to collect fuel, according to police reports released on Wednesday.
The catastrophic event took place shortly after midnight in Jigawa state when the driver of the tanker lost control of the vehicle on a highway adjacent to a university, as detailed by police spokesperson Lawan Adam.
Adam elaborated that, “The local community began to gather and scoop fuel from the overturned tanker when the explosion ensued, resulting in a massive fire that claimed 94 lives instantly.”
