Young Dolph, also known as Adolph Thornton Jr., was a beloved figure in Memphis known for his philanthropic endeavors and rap music career. He originally hailed from Chicago and moved to Memphis with his siblings at a young age. Growing up in a working-class neighborhood, he was described by his sister as having a protective and independent mentality. Young Dolph’s music often reflected the gritty side of Memphis that he witnessed in his upbringing.
His rap career included the ownership of the independent music label, Paper Route Empire. He released several mixtapes and studio albums, collaborating with prominent artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, T.I., and Gucci Mane. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Paper Route Empire as a platform to impact others positively. One of his albums, “Rich Slave,” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Tragically, Young Dolph’s life was cut short in a daylight ambush outside a cookie shop in Memphis in November 2021. Nearly three years later, the trial for his killing is set to begin, with one suspect pleading not guilty to first-degree murder. Two other men have also been charged in connection with the shooting.
Despite his untimely death, Young Dolph’s legacy lives on through his charitable works, including the IdaMae Family Foundation named after his grandmother. The foundation organizes an annual Day of Service in his honor, reflecting his innate kindness and willingness to help others.
Memorials, including murals and street namings, have been dedicated to Young Dolph in Memphis, where he was deeply respected and appreciated not only for his music but also for his generosity and community impact. His family and friends have been patiently awaiting justice for the senseless murder of the father of two children, hoping that all involved will receive the appropriate consequences for their actions.
