Valerio Ferme has been announced as the new president of New Mexico State University, taking over from former president and chancellor Dan Arvizu, who resigned in 2023. Ferme was appointed after serving as the executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Cincinnati since 2021. His selection came after a thorough nationwide search that included several other finalists, such as Arsenio Romero. Romero, who recently resigned as the secretary of the New Mexico Public Education Department, was also in the running for the position of NMSU president.
