Hunter Biden’s sentencing on felony firearms charges has been rescheduled for December after a request for delay from the defense was approved by the judge. Back in June, President Joe Biden’s son was found guilty in a Delaware federal court of three felonies related to purchasing a gun in 2018. Prosecutors revealed that he had lied on a federal form by denying illegal drug use or addiction.
Originally set for November 13, the sentencing hearing has been pushed to December 4 to allow Hunter Biden’s legal team more time for preparation. The charges for the firearm offenses could result in a maximum of 25 years in prison, though he is expected to receive a lesser sentence or potentially avoid imprisonment altogether.
In addition to the gun charges, Hunter Biden is also awaiting sentencing in California on December 16 for federal tax offenses to which he pleaded guilty earlier in the month. These charges carry a possible prison term of up to 17 years, along with fines amounting to $1.35 million.
President Biden, who abandoned his bid for re-election in July, has affirmed that he will not use his presidential authority to pardon his son or reduce his punishment. Hunter Biden, following his guilty plea regarding the tax charges, expressed his desire to spare his family further distress after his gun trial exposed personal struggles with crack cocaine addiction. He asserted that he has maintained sobriety since 2019. In his words, “I will not subject my family to more pain, more invasions of privacy and needless embarrassment. For all I have put them through over the years, I can spare them this, and so I have decided to plead guilty.”
