McLaren overtakes Red Bull in F1’s revenue race

McLaren Racing is presenting a strong challenge in the Formula 1 season, poised to potentially unseat current dominators, Red Bull and driver Max Verstappen. Red Bull has maintained a stronghold on both the drivers’ championship and constructors’ championship since Verstappen’s winning season in 2021, with three consecutive titles for Verstappen. However, McLaren recently claimed the top spot in the constructors’ championship following Oscar Piastri’s victory, placing them ahead of Red Bull for the first time since 2014. McLaren now leads Red Bull by 20 points as they head into the Singapore Grand Prix.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, expressed confidence in his team’s chances, noting that McLaren has a legitimate shot at the championship title. The team’s recent success, including wins by Piastri and Lando Norris, has fueled their aspirations. McLaren’s strategic decision to prioritize Norris in the driver championship over Piastri paid off with Piastri’s victory in Azerbaijan. Brown acknowledged Piastri’s understanding of the team order and highlighted the potential for roles to be reversed based on performance.

While McLaren aims to support Norris in challenging Verstappen for the driver championship, their primary focus remains on clinching the constructors’ title, which offers significant financial rewards. Brown acknowledged the competitiveness of Ferrari as a formidable opponent in the constructors’ championship race. McLaren’s resurgence under team principal Andrea Stella has been praised by Brown, who highlighted the team’s progress and potential.

In addition to their Formula 1 success, McLaren is striving to elevate their IndyCar program under Brown’s leadership. Despite some challenges and setbacks in driver signings, including a legal dispute with Alex Palou, McLaren is determined to strengthen their position in IndyCar. Brown emphasized his commitment to aligning the IndyCar team’s performance with that of the Formula 1 team. McLaren’s evolution and progress in both Formula 1 and IndyCar reflect Brown’s strategic vision for the team’s future success.
