Michigan State Police officer’s injuries from crash on I-75 near Detroit are too severe for survival

A Michigan State Police officer is set to be removed from life support after his patrol car was hit from behind while parked on Interstate 75 close to Detroit. The officer, Daniel Kerstetter, was part of the Motor Carrier Division, responsible for monitoring trucks and other commercial vehicles. Despite efforts to recover from the injuries sustained in the crash, Kerstetter will be taken off life support as his family prepares to donate his organs, according to state police reports on Sunday night.

Kerstetter had been conducting a traffic stop in Lincoln Park on Friday when a Ford Explorer collided with the median and then struck his parked vehicle. The impact caused Kerstetter’s patrol car to hit the back of a semitrailer. Fortunately, Kerstetter was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
