Shanghai Airport cancels numerous flights due to approaching Typhoon Bebinca

Shanghai’s airports are taking precautions ahead of Typhoon Bebinca, set to land early Monday, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. According to airport officials, flights after 8 p.m. local time will be grounded at both Hongqiao and Pudong airports, impacting more than 600 flights. In response to the approaching typhoon, the city is also implementing travel restrictions on certain bridges and highways.
Typhoon Bebinca is currently positioned a few hundred kilometers away from the coastline. The China Meteorological Administration predicts the storm’s winds to intensify to 151 km (94 miles) per hour by Sunday night, classifying it as a potent typhoon.
In preparation for the storm’s arrival, authorities have evacuated 9,318 individuals from a district in Shanghai. Zhoushan, a nearby city, has taken precautions by early closure of restaurants, supermarkets, shops, and halting public transportation services for the day. Reports suggest the storm could bring up to 10 inches (254 millimeters) of rainfall to the most affected areas along the eastern coast.
