Orioles’ Henderson ruins Tigers’ no-hit bid in 9th inning, Tigers secure narrow 1-0 victory

The Detroit Tigers secured a 1-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in a well-pitched game on Friday night. Beau Brieske and Brant Hurter were dominant on the mound, retiring the first 21 batters they faced before Adley Rutschman broke the streak with a walk in the eighth inning. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch praised the pitching performance, acknowledging the strength of the Orioles’ offense.

Brenan Hanifee and Tyler Holton continued the strong pitching for the Tigers, with Holton ultimately closing out the game and earning his eighth save of the season. Gunnar Henderson’s ninth-inning triple broke up the Tigers’ no-hit bid, marking a dramatic moment in the game.

Kerry Carpenter started the scoring early for Detroit with a home run off Zach Eflin in the first inning. Despite Eflin’s solid outing, the Orioles struggled to generate offense, as noted by manager Brandon Hyde.

The win brought the Tigers (76-72) within striking distance of the AL wild card race, while the Orioles (83-65) fell further behind the AL East leaders, the New York Yankees. The young pitching staff for Detroit played a crucial role in the victory, with Hurter standing out for his impressive performance on the mound.

The teams are set to face off again on Saturday evening, with the Orioles sending RHP Corbin Burnes to the mound against a Tigers opener. The continuation of the series promises more exciting matchups between the two clubs.
