Harris focuses on qualifications and objectives, not race, in outreach to Black voters

While President Joe Biden highlighted Black excellence at the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris took to Pennsylvania to engage with voters on critical topics like supporting small businesses, expanding housing options, and boosting the child tax credit. Harris underscored the importance of having a president who works for the well-being of all Americans.

Rather than focusing overtly on her race or gender, Harris prioritizes discussing her policies and background as she actively courts voters. Throughout her career, Harris has consistently prioritized her identity as a woman of color but has not made it the central theme of her campaign.

In the coming days, Harris will address minority voters at various key events, including speaking at a dinner hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, participating in a discussion with the National Association of Black Journalists, and taking part in an online rally featuring notable figures like Oprah Winfrey.

While Harris recognizes her historic candidacy, she prefers to connect with voters on a policy level rather than solely emphasizing her identity. Her unique approach contrasts with previous campaigns, such as Hillary Clinton’s 2016 bid, where breaking barriers was a central theme.

Despite challenges and divisive rhetoric from her opponents, Harris remains focused on engaging voters through meaningful conversations about policies and issues that impact their lives. Her candidacy has generated excitement and increased engagement among Black voters, with organizations like the NAACP mobilizing efforts to ensure voter turnout and address key concerns facing the community.

As the election season progresses, Harris will continue to make her case based on her plans for the future, prioritizing her policies and vision over discussions about race or gender. Harris’ commitment to addressing the needs of all Americans resonates with voters across different demographics, emphasizing the importance of representation and effective leadership in politics.
