2024 Election Update: Harris Focuses on Pennsylvania as Trump Campaigns in the West

Former President Donald Trump will embark on a campaign tour in Western states on Friday, while Vice President Kamala Harris focuses on the battleground state of Pennsylvania in the East. Trump is set to host a news conference at his golf club near Los Angeles before heading to northern California for a fundraiser, and then to Las Vegas for a rally. Meanwhile, Harris will be rallying in Johnstown and Wilkes-Barre as she seeks to capitalize on her momentum after the recent debate and following her events in North Carolina.

During the debate on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris made a statement that surprised many, mentioning the significant increase in domestic oil production under the Biden-Harris administration’s approach to reduce reliance on foreign oil. This came as a departure from Harris’s previous stance as a climate advocate which left supporters and opponents puzzled. Despite this, the Biden-Harris administration has recommitted the United States to the Paris Agreement, with plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and support renewable energy projects over fossil fuels.

In recent remarks in Arizona, Donald Trump proposed ending taxes on overtime wages if he were to be president again. This move is seen as an attempt to appeal to working-class voters, with Trump pledging to also eliminate taxes on tips and Social Security wages. Such proposals, if implemented, could impact federal revenue unless matched with substantial spending cuts. Trump emphasized the need for relief for working individuals, while Harris has unveiled her proposal to halt taxing tips.
