Harvey Weinstein in Custody Undergoes Emergency Heart Surgery in New York City Hospital, According to Spokespeople

Jailed former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery at a hospital in New York City, as confirmed by his representatives. Weinstein, 72, was transferred from Rikers Island jail complex to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan due to severe health issues. His publicist and prison consultant announced that Weinstein had undergone a heart procedure and surgery, without providing further details on his condition. Reports of his hospitalization were initially made public by ABC News.
Weinstein has been in and out of Bellevue Hospital since his return to Rikers Island in April after his 2020 rape and sexual assault convictions were overturned by an appeals court, resulting in a new trial order. In July, he received treatment at the hospital for various health problems, including COVID-19 and pneumonia in both lungs. Prosecutors have recently revealed plans to potentially charge Weinstein with up to three additional sexual assaults, presenting evidence to a grand jury for consideration.
Weinstein, who denies all allegations of rape and sexual assault, remains in custody in New York while awaiting a new trial in Manhattan, scheduled tentatively for November 12. Despite being a central figure in the #MeToo movement, Weinstein’s previous convictions have been overturned, and he is set to face a retrial with some charges still pending. Following the retrial, Weinstein is slated to serve a 16-year sentence in California for a separate rape conviction in Los Angeles, where he was found guilty in 2022.
Weinstein, known for his leadership at Miramax and The Weinstein Company, had been a significant figure in the film industry, producing award-winning films like “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love.”
