Dak Prescott signs historic contract with Cowboys for $60 million annually

Before their season opener against Cleveland, the Dallas Cowboys sealed a new agreement with quarterback Dak Prescott. The star athlete and the Cowboys reached a monumental $240 million, four-year deal, making history as the first NFL contract to average $60 million per season. An insider shared this information with The Associated Press on Sunday under the condition of anonymity as the deal has not yet been publicly announced.
Prescott, the second-place finisher in NFL MVP voting, was heading into the final year of a $160 million, four-year contract, a franchise record that has now been surpassed. The new deal includes an impressive $231 million guaranteed, outstripping Deshaun Watson’s fully guaranteed contract with the Browns by $1 million.
Throughout his career, Prescott has guided the Cowboys to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and a total of five times in his first eight years. However, the team is eager for a postseason breakthrough that has eluded them since their last Super Bowl victory in 1995.
The 31-year-old quarterback has expressed his desire to remain with Dallas and lead the team beyond the divisional round for the first time in almost three decades. With his new contract, Prescott now has the opportunity to make that aspiration a reality.
