An incident in the West Bank resulted in the death of a 26-year-old American woman who was shot in the head. Dr. Ward Basalat confirmed the woman’s death at the hospital where she was brought to and treated. Witnesses and Palestinian media accounts claim she was shot by Israeli soldiers during a pro-Palestinian demonstration protesting settlement expansion in the northern West Bank. The Israeli military has not yet provided a statement regarding the shooting.
Dr. Fouad Naffa, the hospital’s director, also verified that the deceased individual was an American citizen. The woman was reportedly attending a protest against settlement growth in Beita, a Palestinian town north of Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Such demonstrations have a history of turning violent, with instances of confrontations escalating between protesters and Israeli forces. This incident echoes a recent event where an American citizen, Amado Sison, was shot in the leg by Israeli security forces as he sought to escape tear gas and live ammunition during protests.
Dr. Basalat, an emergency room physician at the hospital, disclosed that he treated her for a gunshot wound to the head, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted.
