Gold Glove third baseman Matt Chapman has reached a lucrative agreement with the San Francisco Giants. The six-year contract, valued at $151 million, will cover the years 2025-2030. In exchange for this contract, Chapman has decided to forgo his opportunity to enter free agency after the current season. The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus to be paid on January 15, with annual salaries amounting to $25 million. With this new contract, it is projected that Chapman stands to earn a total of $169 million over seven seasons, spanning from 2024 to 2030.
Chapman originally joined the Giants in March under a different agreement, which guaranteed him $54 million over three years. Currently, Chapman boasts a .247 batting average and leads the Giants in various statistical categories, including 22 home runs, 69 RBIs, 90 runs, and 33 doubles. The 31-year-old player has achieved Gold Glove recognition four times and maintains a career average of .241, with 177 home runs and 495 RBIs across his stints with Oakland (2017-2021), Toronto (2022-2023), and the Giants. He was also named an All-Star in 2019.
