Ex-Republican Rep. Liz Cheney to Support Democrat Kamala Harris for President

Former Republican Representative Liz Cheney indicated her support for Kamala Harris as a candidate for president, bringing an end to speculations about her stance towards the Democratic ticket. Cheney, a member of a GOP dynasty who turned against Trump, made the announcement during an event at Duke University. As a prominent critic of Trump, Cheney emphasized the ongoing danger she believes Trump poses to the nation in a video shared on social media.
Cheney voiced her belief that there is no room to write in candidates’ names, especially in swing states, citing her conservative values and deep consideration for the Constitution. Due to her concerns about Trump’s threat, she declared her decision not to support Trump and instead expressed her intention to vote for Kamala Harris.
The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney has emerged as one of Trump’s most vocal Republican critics. She now stands with other Republicans in supporting Harris, including former Rep. Adam Kinzinger and former Rep. Denver Riggleman, who were also part of the Jan. 6 committee. Over 200 alumni from the Bush administration, as well as former Republican presidential campaigns of late Senators John McCain and Mitt Romney, endorsed Harris last week.
During the Jan. 6 attack, Cheney held a position in House Republican leadership but diverged from most of her caucus regarding Trump’s accountability. She lost her leadership role and was among the few Republicans willing to serve on the Jan. 6 committee, which was established by House Democrats.
