Emma Navarro advances to her first major semifinal with a victory over Paula Badosa at the US Open

Emma Navarro secured her spot in the U.S. Open semifinals for the first time after defeating Paula Badosa 6-2, 7-5 on Tuesday. Navarro, the 13th seed from the United States, had never won a match in the main draw at her home major before this tournament. She will now face either Aryna Sabalenka or Zheng Qinwen in the upcoming semifinals.
In her match against Badosa, Navarro breezed through the first set in just 29 minutes. However, Badosa, seeded 26th, managed to take a 5-1 lead in the second set before Navarro made an impressive comeback, winning six consecutive games to clinch the victory as Badosa’s game unraveled.
Meanwhile, two other American players were also aiming for semifinal berths on Tuesday. The 12th seed Taylor Fritz was set to play against No. 4 Alexander Zverev, the runner-up in the 2020 U.S. Open, at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Additionally, Frances Tiafoe, seeded 20th, was scheduled to face No. 9 Grigor Dimitrov in a night match.
