A tragic accident occurred on a highway near Claxton, Georgia, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuring three others. The crash involved a Nissan Rogue traveling in the wrong direction in a northbound lane of U.S. 301, colliding head-on with a Ford van. Despite the highway having four lanes, there was no median or barrier separating the lanes at the location of the accident.
Regrettably, three out of the four individuals in the Nissan SUV lost their lives at the scene of the crash, while the fourth was rushed to a hospital in Statesboro, Georgia by an ambulance. The occupants of the van, including the driver and passenger, were airlifted to a hospital in Savannah with severe injuries. The rescue operation was challenging, with Evans County Fire and Rescue having to utilize specialized tools to extricate the trapped individuals from the Nissan.
Currently, the identities of the victims remain undisclosed. Trooper Sgt. First Class David Laff mentioned to the Statesboro Herald that authorities are actively engaged in the process of confirming the identities of the individuals involved in the collision and notifying their families.
