WASHINGTON — Several vehicles at the back of a motorcade carrying Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz were involved in a crash while en route from the airport to a campaign event in Milwaukee on Monday. Fortunately, Walz emerged unharmed from the incident.
The crash took place around 1 p.m. local time. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign confirmed that she spoke with Walz shortly after the collision and verified that he was not injured. The campaign indicated that the crash impacted cars towards the rear of the motorcade, away from where Walz, who also serves as the governor of Minnesota, was situated.
One member of Walz’s travel team, who was in a van transporting reporters, sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention, as reported by a pool journalist traveling with the motorcade. Although shaken, others in the van seemed to be alright after experiencing a forceful impact that led to their van colliding both with the vehicle in front and being struck from the rear.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The incident transpired subsequent to Walz and his wife, Gwen, being welcomed at the airport by Democratic Representative Gwen Moore of Wisconsin. The group shared a warm embrace, engaged in conversation, and posed for photos before commencing the journey to the scheduled campaign event.
Monday’s campaign stops, held in observance of Labor Day, marked Walz’s first time flying aboard the Harris-Walz campaign aircraft. The plane features decals of the American flag, the names Harris-Walz, and the slogan “A New Way Forward.”
