Manaea and Lindor Propel Mets to Victory Against White Sox as Franchise Suffers Record Loss

0

Sean Manaea delivered a stellar performance on the mound, allowing only two hits over seven innings, as the New York Mets secured a 2-0 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The loss marked the White Sox’s franchise-record 107th loss in the season, surpassing the previous record set by the 1970 team. Additionally, the White Sox endured their first 0-10 homestand in franchise history, a feat not seen since the 1965 Mets.

Francisco Lindor provided the offensive spark for the Mets by launching his 29th home run of the season in the fourth inning, off White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet. The Mets added to their lead in the ninth inning when Starling Marte drove in a run with an RBI double. The victory marked the Mets’ fourth consecutive win and ninth in 13 games, as they continue to chase the final NL wild card spot, trailing the Atlanta Braves by two games.

Manaea, who improved his record to 11-5, dominated on the mound, striking out five batters while allowing only two hits and two walks. The left-hander has been in excellent form, winning three of his last four starts. Chicago struggled to generate offense throughout the game, with their first hit coming in the fifth inning.

Despite the loss, White Sox pitcher Crochet had a notable performance, tying a club record by striking out the first seven batters he faced and finishing the game with eight strikeouts in total. The Mets fans showed their appreciation for Lindor’s home run by chanting “MVP!” as he rounded the bases.

The White Sox continue to face challenges, with a record of 4-36 since the All-Star break and a 3-18 record under interim manager Grady Sizemore. The team hopes for the return of third baseman Yoán Moncada, who has been out of action since April 9 due to an adductor strain and is currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte.

Looking ahead, the Mets will send RHP Luis Severino to the mound in their upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox, while the White Sox will face the Baltimore Orioles with RHP Chris Flexen on the pitching mound. Flexen, who has not won a game since May 8, will aim to turn the tide for the struggling White Sox.
