Seven individuals lost their lives and numerous others were injured in Mississippi following a tragic incident where a commercial bus overturned on Interstate 20 in Bovina on Saturday morning. The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed the devastating toll, with six individuals pronounced deceased at the accident site and another succumbing to injuries at a nearby hospital. The bus, which was traveling westbound, departed from the highway near Bovina in Warren County and overturned, with no other vehicles involved in the accident.
The National Transportation Safety Board attributed the cause of the crash to tire failure, as stated on the social media platform X. Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey disclosed that among the deceased were a 6-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, who were identified by their mother. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining victims, according to Huskey.
A total of 37 passengers were transported to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson for medical treatment. The investigation by the authorities is still ongoing, and the identities of the deceased have not been disclosed yet. Further details regarding the accident were not immediately available.
