Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns Quarterback, Misses Preseason Finale Due to Arm Soreness Earlier in Week

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will not participate in the team’s last preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks due to arm soreness. The decision comes after Watson recently returned from right shoulder surgery and experienced discomfort during practice this week. Although he practiced with the first-team offense on Thursday, coach Kevin Stefanski decided to err on the side of caution by resting Watson.
The Browns are also facing injuries at both offensive tackle positions, which likely contributed to the choice to sit Watson for the preseason finale. Despite this setback, the team reassured that Watson remains on track to start in the home opener on Sept. 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.
In Watson’s absence, backup quarterback Jameis Winston will take the reins for the exhibition match with the Seahawks. Last season, Watson’s campaign was cut short by a broken bone in his throwing arm, limiting him to just six starts. Cleveland is hopeful that the three-time Pro Bowler will make a strong comeback this year after signing a lucrative five-year, $230 million deal in 2022.
Following Watson’s injury last season, the Browns had to rely on a rotation of five different quarterbacks, eventually bringing in Joe Flacco to lead the team to the playoffs. Flacco recorded a 4-1 record and 1,616 passing yards in five games, showcasing his experience and skill on the field.
