Lord’s cricket ground in London is set to make history by hosting a women’s test match for the first time in 2026 when England takes on India. This iconic venue, known as the home of cricket, has previously held England Women’s matches in limited-overs formats but never a test match. The format of the test match, whether it will be played over four or five days, is yet to be confirmed. Claire Taylor, former England player and chair of the Marylebone Cricket Club’s cricket committee, expressed the significance of this event, stating that it provides young girls across the country with the opportunity to aspire to play test match cricket at such a renowned location. She emphasized that this move highlights cricket as an inclusive sport for everyone. Richard Gould, the chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, described the upcoming test match as a “truly special occasion” that holds great importance for the sport.
