Two 18-year-old individuals, Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, have been accused of the murder of former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor. The charges were announced by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gasón during a recent press conference. The young actor was fatally shot when he confronted a group of thieves attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his vehicle on May 25. The suspects, including Barceleau and Estrada, were apprehended on Thursday and were scheduled for arraignment Monday.

Barceleau and Estrada are facing charges of murder, grand theft, and attempted robbery. Barceleau’s charges involve special circumstances, such as murder during an attempted robbery and personal use of a firearm, which could result in a life sentence without parole upon conviction. Estrada could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. Another individual, Leonel Gutierrez, was charged with grand theft and attempted robbery, while a fourth individual, Frank Olano, was charged with being an accessory after the fact.

In response to Wactor’s tragic death, a group named “Justice for Johnny,” comprising family and friends, organized rallies calling for a more aggressive investigation and prosecution. The incident has spurred discussions on the need for a tougher stance on crime in the city. LAPD Interim Chief Dominic Choi highlighted the challenging nature of the case, emphasizing the ongoing and relentless efforts in the investigation. Mayor Karen Bass echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of taking assertive actions to enhance the city’s safety.

Barceleau is currently being held without bail, while Estrada’s bail is set at just over $1 million. The tragic loss of Johnny Wactor has drawn attention to the urgency of addressing crime in the city and seeking justice for the beloved actor.
