A group advocating for a casino to be built in the Lake of the Ozarks tourist destination in Missouri has filed a lawsuit to push for the proposal to be included on the November ballot. Despite the secretary of state’s office stating that the campaign did not gather enough signatures for the constitutional amendment to be presented to voters, the Osage River and Gaming Convention contest this claim, asserting that they have amassed a sufficient number of signatures.
The group, in a statement, acknowledged the lengthy process election officials undergo in verifying signatures on various initiative petitions. They expressed confidence that their petition contains an ample count of valid signatures from eligible voters to merit placement on the November 5, 2024, general election ballot and are thus seeking legal recourse to achieve this.
Under current state regulations, casinos are restricted to the Missouri and Mississippi rivers only. The petition put forth by the Osage River and Gaming Convention aims to secure approval for a casino to be established along the Osage River, which flows into the Lake of the Ozarks.
