One of the six children of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has officially changed her name by dropping “Pitt” from it. A Los Angeles court approved a request from the third-eldest child of the former couple to legally change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie on Monday. The petition for the name change was filed on May 27, Shiloh’s 18th birthday.
While it has been reported that other children of Jolie and Pitt informally omit Pitt from their names, Shiloh is the first to take legal action to formalize the name change. Their daughter Vivienne was previously listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in a Broadway program for “The Outsiders.” Alongside Shiloh and Vivienne, the former couple share four other children named Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Knox.
Angelina Jolie, known for her role in “Maleficent,” herself filed for a name change in 2002 to legally remove her father Jon Voight’s surname after their strained relationship. Jolie and Pitt were together for a decade before getting married in 2014. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and in 2019 a judge declared them legally single, though the divorce proceedings are ongoing with custody and financial matters unresolved.
In recent years, the actors have been involved in legal battles regarding their joint business ventures and properties, including a winery in France. In a 2022 court filing, Jolie alleged instances of abuse by Pitt towards her and their children during a flight in 2016. Representatives for Shiloh did not respond to requests for comments. The news of the name change approval was first reported by TMZ.
