Longstanding Producer Karamehmedovic Appointed as Head of ABC News Division

0

ABC News announced on Monday that Almin Karamehmedovic, a seasoned producer and the top executive behind the scenes at “World News Tonight” since 2014, has been appointed as the new president of the network. Karamehmedovic is taking over from Kim Godwin, who retired in May after a three-year tenure.

Godwin faced challenges during her time at ABC News, partially due to being an outsider coming from a previous executive position at CBS. In contrast, Karamehmedovic has been with ABC News since starting as a freelance video editor in London in 1998. He has covered a variety of international stories for the network and later moved to the United States in 2008 to become the executive producer of “Nightline.”

Debra O’Connell, the President of Disney News Group and Networks, who will oversee Karamehmedovic, praised his dedication and contributions to ABC News over the years. She highlighted his ability to engage with audiences in a meaningful and profound manner. Karamehmedovic will now be tasked with maintaining the high ratings achieved by ABC News’ leading programs, “World News Tonight” with David Muir and “Good Morning America.”

The role of a broadcast network news division president holds significant influence in the field of journalism, despite facing challenges in recent years with the rise of cable news networks and increased involvement of corporate leaders like O’Connell. Karamehmedovic’s extensive experience within ABC News positions him well for this critical leadership role within the network.
