A luxury superyacht sailboat, the “Bayesian,” carrying British, American, and Canadian passengers and crew, sank off the coast of Sicily in severe weather early Monday. Authorities confirmed that one body was recovered, 15 individuals were rescued, while six remained missing following the incident. The boat capsized around 5 a.m. near Porticello.
Initially, fifteen people were saved and taken to shore, with eight individuals needing medical attention. Rescue teams, including the coast guard, carabinieri, fire rescue, and civil protection services, were actively involved in the search for the missing passengers. The wreck was located at a depth of 50 meters, and efforts were being made by experienced divers to access the hull in hopes of finding the remaining six individuals.
Local reports mentioned that severe weather conditions, including water spouts, had hit the area overnight. Despite the challenging conditions, the skies had cleared, and the sea had calmed down by Monday morning. The yacht, built by the Italian company Perini Navi in 2008, had been anchored off the port in Porticello before the tragic incident occurred.
