Caitlin Clark made the most of being left off the U.S. Olympic team by enjoying some downtime, including a trip to Mexico and attending a friend’s wedding in Iowa. The break was a welcomed respite for Clark and other rookies who had been playing non-stop basketball for almost a year. Teresa Weatherspoon, coach of the Chicago team, noted how important it was for rookies like Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso to recharge their bodies after a hectic schedule from college to the WNBA.
The rookie players began their 40-game regular season in mid-May, facing challenges due to a modified and compressed schedule following the Olympic break. Reese and Cardoso found the break mentally refreshing and used the time to recuperate. Clark took the opportunity to bond with her teammates off the court through activities like a “home run derby” and attending the Indiana State Fair.
As teams gear up for the final stretch of the season and push for playoff spots, players are eager to return to competitive games. The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky are aiming to secure their places in the playoffs. With the season resuming, players like Clark are excited to get back on the court and compete. The race to the playoffs is now the main focus for teams as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
